Egerton University, through the Division of Research and Extension, conducts basic and demand-driven research that seeks to generate new knowledge, technologies and innovations that enhance social and economic development within and outside Kenya. Research in the Division is aligned to Kenya’s national policies, priorities and market needs.To enhance food insecurity, for instance, the research focuses on increasing productivity of crops and livestock by using proper farm management techniques, planting high yielding and drought tolerant hybrid seeds, giving adequate and balanced rations to livestock, controlling post-harvest losses and ensuring value addition and efficient marketing of farm products with efficiency and sustainability in mind. The research-based information is usually packaged and effectively disseminated to the beneficiaries in simple and easy-to-understand language. Staff in the Division value team work, information sharing, efficiency in service delivery and customer satisfaction while conducting research, extension outreach and consultancies. The Division has functional network of partners/ collaborators in the public and private sector.
